This beautiful coffee has a huge amount of character in the cup, with great depth of flavour and floral tones. Finca Bosque Lya achieved world fame in coffee circles when it took first place in the 2004 Cup of Excellence – an internationally recognised competition for coffee excellence.
Finca Bosque Lya is situated in the municipality of Santa Ana on the foothills of the Santa Ana Volcano in the Apaneca Mountain range of western El Salvador. The farm was established in 1932 when Gustavo Vides Valdes named his property in honour of his newly born daughter, Lya. The farm name Bosque Lya translates to – Lya’s forest.

El Salvador is a land of volcanoes, many of them still active, which means there is an abundance of fertile soil and high altitude – perfect conditions for growing high quality coffee. It is known in Central America as ‘Pulgarcito’ which means ‘little thumb’ and of course makes reference to the tiny size of the country. However it manages to produce some of the best coffee in the world with fantastic complexity, sweetness and flavour.

We have selected a washed coffee from this award-winning farm.

Coffee cherries here are carefully selected and transported to the El Borbollon mill in Santa Ana where they are immediately pulped and washed before being laid out to dry on patios. An altitude growing range of 1,473 to 1,650 metres above sea level brings about coffees of great complexity that are sweet and lively with nuances of berries, tea rose and dark fruit such as plums with delicious milk chocolate on the finish too.
