Pear, cola, vanilla.

We are delighted to present the Seasonal Espresso: Spring Edition from the Kunjin washing station in Papua New Guinea. We cupped this coffee blind and it had so many characteristics of an African coffee we were blown away to find it was from PNG.
Coffees from PNG are traditionally pretty wild and funky; however we love this coffee for its bright and delicate acidity that sets it apart from the other Southeast Asian coffees or the earthier Sumatran or Sulawesian varietals. The quality of this coffee and cleanliness in the cup is one of its biggest attributes with notes of pear, cola and vanilla.

PNG is another one of those countries with has great potential, but is still far away from hitting its peak. It has heirloom varieties and a great altitude, but its social and economic problems make it extremely hard to achieve top-quality coffee. Kunjin is a centralised plantation mill that purchases cherry from small holder farms in the highlands and day lots are cupped and separated to control quality at the processing level, which is a step towards creating a sustainable and more highly sought after, quality coffee.
