Limited release micro lot exclusive to Artisan Roast. Sweet, succulent flavours of orange and apricot lead onto a long juicy caramel like finish

The dramatic and lush green rolling hills of the region of Huila in the south west of Colombia are home to some truly amazing coffees. They are also home to some amazing small farmers, who until recently remained somewhat anonymous to the coffee world.

The farmers in the region have always been small scale with farms usually only one or two hectares in size. The small volumes of coffee produced on this size of farm are small and in the past small lots of neighbouring farms would have their coffee bulked into larger bulked lots. The coffees were still great and were the building blocks of the reputation Colombia build for delicious, consistent coffee, yet the farmers missed out on recognition.

Artisan roast are working with our export partner in Colombia to give these small farmers more visibility and recognition for their coffee. We are sourcing from a group of around 10 or so farmers in Huila and Cauca, who all produce exemplorary coffee. The sizes of coffee purchases we make will vary, but are very small, more a nano-lot than a micro-lot, and this means farms will come and go off the menu over time sometimes staying for only a few weeks.

La Esperanza is one of these farms. Owned by Leonardo Chara and his family, it's a super small farm just over a hectare in size around ten miles south of the city of Pitalio. Like many of his neighbours he exclusively grows the Caturra variety of arabica. The coffee has been roasted to focus on the dense, viscous and juicy mouthfeel that sits with intense aromatics of orange, apricot and caramel. These flavours are balanced by a sublimely refined effervescent and slightly tangy acidity that lingers long.

In terms of brewing this coffee works great either as a filter or aeropress - the preference in the cafes is for aeropress where the apricot and caramel like flavours become a little more present.
